In 2023, the Bassins des Lumières pay tribute to the incomparable and unique works of Salvador Dalí. This immersive exhibition presents more than sixty creative years in the life of the Catalan artist who, inspired by Cubism, Surrealism, and Futurism, mastered a realism that was meticulously applied to the surface of the canvas: blending reality with the mysteries of conscience, fantasies, and memories.

As you make your way around a thematic itinerary, you explore the artist’s highly imaginative whimsical and metaphysical landscapes. Exhibited worldwide (the Théâtre-Musée Dalí in Figueres, The Dalí Museum in Florida, the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid, the MoMA in New-York, etc.), his works invite you to explore his unique oneiric world.

Brought to life on the walls and reflected in the water of the Bassins des Lumières, all details of brushstrokes, lines, and various materials are highlighted. Paintings, drawings, photographs, installations, films, and archive images portray the unique personality of the famous moustached painter, and his obsession with the strange as well as his fascination with his muse and collaborator—his wife, Gala.

You are able to see his great masterpieces: The Persistence of Memory, The Face of Mae West (Useable as a Surrealist Apartment), Atomic Leda, and The Temptation of St Anthony. Inspired by the great masters of painting, such as Vélasquez, Raphael, Michelangelo, Vermeer, and Millet, his works highlight the different approaches he adopted, from his Impressionist and Cubist studies to his mystical works, religious themes, and his works with the theatre, photography, and the cinema.

Accompanied by the music of Pink Floyd, this digital exhibition incorporates two icons of painting and music in an astonishing visual production, in which obsessional visions and technical virtuosity are combined. This retrospective, combined with the music of the legendary ‘60s group, takes you on a timeless journey that awakens the subconscious, in which Dalí’s work remains an endless enigma.
