Dive into the heart of the world of Orientalists in an immersive exhibition at the Bassins des Lumières in Bordeaux!
From shady rooftops to the colorful bustle of the markets, escape to the Orient of the 19th century through the travel journals of Eugène Delacroix. Meet the locals in the maze of alleys, and catch the eye of Jean-Léon Gérôme's iconic Bachi-Bouzouk.
After leaving the bustle of the streets, it's time to be amazed. Musicians, snake charmers and belly dancers mingle with the colors of mesmerizing patterns, in a festive atmosphere, punctuated by lively music.
Calm returns and reveals a majestic palace with fountains and patios overflowing with dazzling gilding, under the watchful eye of the guards... You are led outside the city, into the arid landscapes of an enchanting desert. The vegetation of an oasis invades the space, and wild animals appear before your eyes like a mirage!
La Grande Odalisque reveals the mysterious and inaccessible world of harems, as fantasized by Western painters. She stares at you before disappearing into a swirl of silky blue fabrics...
